If I choose good over evil, did I inspire myself to choose good?
If I choose to love, can I love by my own power?
When I love, am I the source of the love?
If I give of my skills, talents, labors or riches, is it from my own reservoir of gifts?
Do I possess wisdom and truth that I might impart to others?
If we understand what we are, we know that we are not the source of any of these
things, but mere channels through which they flow. If we know that we are creatures,
not the Creator, we know that we depend on our Creator for everything. We know that
in order to achieve anything good in life, we must allow our Creator to use us as he
pleases. After our fall from grace, we became aware of the difference between good and
evil, but the serpent lied when he said we would, in a sense, be equal to God, because if
we were God's equal, we would not choose evil since it would be contrary to God's
nature. Yet we still choose evil! We may know good from evil, but we can not be good
without our Creator! We must go to the source!
We know that the source of a river is bigger than itself. We know that without it's
source, the river ceases to be a river, it dries up and it's true nature as an empty channel
is revealed! We know that as long as the river is not cut off from it's source, the source's
contents will continue to flow where it has cut it's path! So it is with God, the Source,
and man, the river cut by the source! Just as the river flows with water from it's source,
bringing the good effects to all things along it's path, so too, do we bring the good effects
from our source to all those along our path!
What flows through us, when we are not cut off from our Source, is love, truth, peace,
virtue, goodness, wisdom, life and God's power! God cut his path for all eternity in all
men when He created the first man. From the beginning, His gifts to mankind freely
flowed through Adam and Eve until the source was severed because of their
disobedience. All of those in their path, the path cut by God and meant to travel to all of
mankind until the end of time, all of their descendants, (us), suffered the loss of the good
from the Source! Today, we would send in the Army Corp of Engineers with heavy
equipment to restore the flow to a river. Not so easy with God's flow to mankind! That
took God Himself, becoming man. It took God's own Divine Son, His own Divine Word
becoming flesh; it took Jesus Christ, God Incarnate! Not with bulldozers but with a
cross, did He restore God's flow to all of mankind. But here is a mystery! Even though
God Himself came and repaired the damage, He will not begin the flow without our
permission! Without our trust that good things will flow if we have faith and accept the
work that Jesus accomplished on our behalf! Our wounded Human nature, inherited
from Adam and Eve, now wants to weigh and measure everything! We have a tendency
to test everything to see what it will cost us in this world; in this life only! Our child like
trust in our Creator is wounded! We now know good from evil, a bell that can not be
un-rung! We still want to believe in the lie that we can become like gods. We are in
denial when we think of ourselves as the source of good! We deny the path of truth that
God has cut in us! We resist looking too far up the path to our Source while attempting
to cut our own paths with falsehood, myths, indifference, darkness and death, which
then flow to those in our path. We need to turn around and go back to the Source of
good things! Back to God to reconnect and give our permission, by an ascension of faith
in the work of Jesus for you, to start the flow through you and for you and others!
