CATHOLIC

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
                                           John
                                       Chapter 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3  All things came to be through him, and without him nothing
 came to be.
What came to be
4 through him was life, and this life was the light of the human
 race;

JEHOVAH'S  WITNESSES
                     NEW WORLD TRANSLATION
                                             John
                                         Chapter 1
1  In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was a god.
2  This one was in [the] beginning with God.
3  All things came into existence through him, and apart from
him not even one thing came into existence.
What has come
 into existence
4  by means of him was life, and the life was the light of men.

In comparing verse 1 of the Catholic Bible with verse 1 of the
Johavah's Witnesses Bible, the word "a" was added in the
Jehovah's Witnesses Bible, and also the letter "g" in
god was
changed to lower case; (Theos to theos), to give the impression
that Jesus was not God, but "a god" created by 'The God' !
They also teach that Jesus is Michael the Archangel!  This
contradicts every scholarly translation of the of Sacred
Scripture, Catholic or Protestant, to date!  You can not easily
convince the JW of this error, but if you focus on verse 3 of
both the Catholic and JW translations, which are virtually
identical, you can stump the JW by asking a few simple
questions about this verse:
Question 1    Would you agree that the "Word" is Jesus?

(Refer to their John Chapter 1 verse 14 So the Word became flesh and resided
among us, and we had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only-
                                    begotten son from a father;)
Question 2    Would you agree that verse 3 in the Catholic
translation agrees with verse 3 in your
                     translation?
Question 3    Would you agree that the word "him" in verse 3
in both translations is referring to Jesus the
                     Word?
Question 4    Would you agree that "All things" in verse 3 of
both tranlstions is "all encompassing" and
                     includes Angels?
(JW Squirms here)
Question 5   If you agree with all of the above questions, since
it is impossible not to agree, then how can Jesus
be Michael the Archangel?  How can He be "a
created" being if His creation had to be
through
the Word? (which you agree is Jesus)  So if you
say that "All things came into existence through
him, (Jesus the Word), you are stating that
Jesus,
                     came into existence through
Jesus!

Now refer to their translation of Colossians chapter 1 of
their NWT and compare to other translations, pointing out that
they added the word "other" in four places in parentheses, and
changed and ommitted the words "
dominions, pricipalities &
powers
" from vs 16 :

16 because by means of him all [other] things
were created in the heavens and upon the
earth, the things visible and the things invisible,
no matter whether they are thrones or lordships
                     or governments or authorities. All
[other] things
have been created through him and for him. 17
                     Also, he is before all
[other] things and by means
                     of him all
[other] things were made to exist, 18
and he is the head of the body, the congregation.

The thrones and everything in heaven and on earth, visible
and
invisible, must and does include all of the Angels, including
Michael the Archangel!  According to
their Colossians, Jesus
was created by means of Jesus, through Jesus and for Jesus!
In
spite of their attempt to alter the meaning of this text, they
could not change it enough to miss the divinity of Jesus!

Now don't  you think it is possible that, when every other
translation of Sacred Scriptures to date, states that "the Word
was God" (in verse 1 of John), that your scholars got it wrong?
(especially in light of the proper understanding and agreement
of verse 3)
To commit such a serious error of faith, such as the
denial of the divinity of Jesus, should be of concern to JW and
anyone who loves, respects and defends the truth!  What other
JW teachings are in error if you now know of this serious
error?  What about the spirit of man that is in him, or the
exclusion of all but 144,000 from heaven?  What about all of the
mistaken predictions by JW concerning the end of the age, or
the teaching that Jesus already came but it was not visible?
What about the JW teacing that Jesus did not rise physically?
There are ample proofs in Sacred Scripture that contradict all
these JW teachings, and more!  Please investigate your
founders, your scholars and their credentials and ask them to
explain why they added, changed and removed certain words
from Sacred Scripture!  I invite you to pray for light, the same
light in chapter 1 of John, to guide you to all truth!  I invite you
to open your hearts and minds to the history of the Church that
Jesus established, not the one that Charles T. Russel
established!
